"Be it here now resolved: To try something new or novel"

The newspaper is here for us to read, key people were able to drive to the plant where it is printed, and the presses worked.

Since the rest of us are relaxed enough to have the notion to read the paper, apparently nothing too terrible happened when the gong struck midnight two days ago.

Of course, we all knew that was the way it was going to be. None of us was worried. We needed all the water and canned food stored in our garages. We were collecting it for the food bank to deliver right after the new year.

So since all is well—before the day is out, before the first workweek of the millenium begins, just after we eat our bowl of black-eyed peas, we can make our list of new millenium resolutions.

They should be different. They should be long-term, bold, original -- striking out into new territory. No one should be able to recognize them as ours —- especially our family.

We might resolve this year:

To wear a new color never before tried
To read one of the classics for every best seller finished
To get thirty more minutes sleep each night
To eat breakfast
To make a new life-long friend
To read the Bible through completely and meet its author
To spend 30 additional minutes each day doing something fun with our kids
To create an original recipe
To get a drastically different hair style
To sign up for beginning painting
To go somewhere new once a month
To be a real friend to that jerk at work/school
To try out the long fingernails/to file off the long finger nails
To write a poem
To create a personal website
To sit outside in the morning, alone, 30 minutes once a week–just listening
To make conversation with the teenager next door /to make conversation with the old guy next door once a week
To skip one meal a week
To join a choir

These are some seeds of creativity for you -- or maybe "thought fertilizer". We all need to create our own, but we should think forward, better, upward--but also lingering, thorough, and excellent. Our time is short.
